Political Synthesis Paper

English III: American Literature

Louisville Library

This LibGuide will help you find the current events articles to support the stance you take in your paper, as well as MLA guidance for formatting and for citing your sources.

As a reminder, the basic steps of this paper are as follows:

1. Choose a specific law, policy, bill, act, proposition, measure, etc. that has either recently passed or may be passed soon (you cannot choose a general topic such as gun control, but must find a specific, recently debated gun control law).

2. Find 5 sources (newspaper and magazine articles) and take thorough notes as you read.

3. After reviewing your notes and considering your topic, choose your position.

4. Write a persuasive essay (2-3 pages) that incorporates at least 3 of your outside sources.
